SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES IN JUNE 2023 AND OUTLOOK 2023-2025
With reference to what companies declare on sustainability practices, it is estimated that 69% of manufacturing companies, in June 2023, have undertaken sustainability actions. Among these, 56.2% follow environmental protection practices, 60.9% social sustainability initiatives and 39% have carried out economic sustainability actions.
In terms of size, large companies are those that undertake more sustainability actions (90.9%), this share drops to 46.7% for smaller companies.
From a geographical point of view, manufacturing companies in the North-West and North-East carry out more sustainability initiatives, respectively 71% and 70.4% of total manufacturing companies, in the Centre they are 65.1%, while in the South the percentage is 60.2%.
Among the economic sectors, the highest share of companies undertaking sustainability actions is found in the manufacture of coke and petroleum products (90.5% of companies), followed by Pharmaceuticals (88.2% of companies) and the manufacture of means of transport (85.7% of companies). The Metallurgy sector emerges as less virtuous with 57% of companies, followed by Other industries (62.6%). Looking at the components of sustainability, in the sector of the manufacture of coke and petroleum products, companies are more active in environmental protection practices (89% of companies), but also for social sustainability (88.2% of companies) and economic sustainability (with 74.5% of companies). In Pharmaceuticals, the social component prevails, with 83.6% of companies, the environmental component with 80.6% of companies and the economic component with 52.7% of companies.
