Procrastination in the Contemporary Age!
📌Have you been assigned a new project that you have been waiting for a long time? Or have you had the opportunity to do some renovations?
It seems easy to find inspiration, after all, you have a deadline.
But then, at the most inopportune moment, procrastination appears, and you start putting these tasks off until later and later.
📌Procrastination can take many forms and often forms a habit of putting things off until later, which harms us in the long run.
What are the main reasons why we procrastinate, and how can we stop it?
⚜1. Striving for perfection
The desire to achieve an ideal result leads to the fact that the project remains unfinished, and the renovation becomes "permanent". In this way, we protect ourselves from the risk of making a mistake. After all, if something is not finished, there is still a chance to make changes. And as a result, we do not achieve our goal.
⚜2. Low energy
Sometimes we procrastinate because we have no energy. The thought of sitting down at the computer and finishing a report seems simply impossible.
First of all, check whether you are meeting the basic needs of the body: regular meals (3-4 times a day), 8 hours of sleep, reasonable physical activity.
If this condition has been observed for a long time, visit a doctor, as anemia or low levels of vitamin B12 can cause such symptoms.
⚜3. No concentration
Are you trying to finish a report, but after a while you find yourself watching YouTube videos for an hour?
It is possible to improve your concentration. A number of techniques, such as meditation or mindfulness practice before starting work, help you focus on the current task and improve your attention.
⚜4. Waiting for the perfect moment
Perhaps it would be better to postpone a trip to the park with the kids until next weekend, since sunny weather is forecast, and on Thursday you will definitely have time to go to the gym.
However, we cannot constantly shift tasks onto ourselves in the future, since this will ultimately lead to additional workload and we will not have time to do anything.
If the task seems too big and tiring, break it down into smaller parts and, when completing them, reinforce yourself with something pleasant.
⚜5. No image of the result
Sometimes we avoid doing it because there is no clear understanding of what should be the result of our activity.
To understand the task and solve this problem, prepare a pen and paper and make a list of subtasks. Write down everything that needs to be done, starting with the smallest details. Move through the list step by step until you finish the whole thing.
⚠If, despite following all recommendations, procrastination continues, contact a psychotherapist for more comprehensive work.
