Absolute poverty is growing due to inflation
In 2022, just over 2.18 million families are in a condition of absolute poverty (8.3% of the total from 7.7% in 2021) and over 5.6 million individuals (9.7% up from 9, 1% of the previous year).
This worsening is largely attributable to the sharp acceleration in inflation.
The incidence of absolute poverty among families with at least one foreigner is equal to 28.9%, while it stops at 6.4% for families made up only of Italians.
The incidence of relative poverty stands at 10.9% (stable compared to 11.0% in 2021) and there are 2.8 million families below the threshold.
